San Diego area Yamaha do-it-yourself maintenance help
I am looking for someone to teach me how to do some basic maintenance on my 1991 40hp Yamaha. I have changed the impeller several times and done a few minor things. NOW I would like to be able to flush out the bottom bowl of the carburetors which I am told is pretty easy.
Any one willing to coach me....I am meticulous and a fast learner!
I've got a friend with a small business on the side but I don't think he teaches. I wish he were. He could teach me to fix my 40 HP Johnson that I just gave a few hundred dollars for. Do you hit the bay or close in offshore? I just got my 13' Super Sport ready and am up for buddy boating if you want to fish outside in the kelp.
There is an excellent youtube video. How to clean carb on a Yamaha 2 stroke outboard. I think it is actually a 40 hp that he works on.
I watched it and was able to completely re-do the carbs on my 70 hp and 90 hp with no problems. You probably need to clean the jets or replace them. Cleaning/draining the bowl will probably not fix any issues unless they are really full of gelled fuel.
