Does anyone have the new F25 Yamaha yet?

My Dad has (and loves) a 1986 13' Sport. It currently has an old 25 Johnson that has been giving him issues (breaks down 2-3 times a season).

He has been thinking about repowering for a couple yrs and his boatyard has been saying smaller fuel injected Yamaha four strokes are coming - now the 25hp is available. So he has his eye on the new F25 - Yamaha says it's the lightest (two or four stroke) in it's class. He is not interested in extra HP or more weight. (He has been using Yamaha's since the late 80's and wants to stay with them).

Here is the link for the new F25

Have him check out the new Suzuki 25 or 30 HP 4 strokes. Also very light and strong. I installed the 30 on my 2002 13 ft Whaler and it's fantastic. Long warranty and Zuke will allow dealers (I bought my from PortaBote who shipped it for free) to sell the engine packages under 40HP to consumers. The motor includes everything- prop, control box, etc. The 30 was around $4K.

He has been using Yamaha's since the late 80's and wants to stay with them - plus his boat yard has a Yamaha master mechanic.

Suzuki's are great motors and I have brought that idea up to him several times over the last few years.

A little update - he is also now going to check out the Suzuki 30.

Very interesting that they allow dealers to sell to consumers.

Does it have to be shipped then to a Suzuki mechanic?

Thanks

I don't think so. Mine was shipped directly to my house and delivered into my garage. The large box contains everything - prop, control box, tank, fuel hose. It's a great motor. Check out PortaBote -very nice to work with and free shipping

Ron, I have a 2002 130 Whaler so I can only speak to the Zuke on it. I suspect the top end on a pre-new hull design would be higher due to the flatter hull.
Fuel economy is hard to know since it's so good. I had a 2002 40HP Merc 2 stroke on it and a 6 gal tank might last a few weeks, while the Zuke 6 gal lasts for well over a month using the boat the same amount. Not very quantitative, but it's a significant improvement.
The 30 is lighter than the 40 Merc which helps performance.
I did have to change the prop to a 10 pitch to get full RPMs. At WOT, it will run about 28 mph, planes at 3000 (if I recall) and is very quiet. I installed a Faria tach with warning lights- connected right up to the Zuke harness.
Hope that answers your question- let me know if you need anything else.

I would also recommend the 30hp Suzuki. I put it on my 1978 Boston whaler 13 sport last year and its great and very light to and haven't had a problem.
