what are the opinions out there regarding which outboard is easiest to maintain spring and fall. Evinrude, Yamaha, Mercury, Honda , Suzuki ? Maybe categorize easiest to most difficult and whats involved. thanks in advance for any / all input.

Bob,

If you're talking a newish engine the Evinrude E-Tec is the sure winner. Id does it for you. All the four strokes will need an oil and filter change.

I think the question is 4 stroke versus DFI.

All 4 strokes are straightforward when it comes to oil change, filters, lower unit gear oil, lubrication.

DFI eliminates need for engine oil changes.

If i was back in the north and had my choice, it would be E-TEC for that and the self-winterization feature. You could go out on a nice day in February for a few hrs then re-winterize in 5 minutes and throw the tarp back on.
