Hey All,

Quick question about how to properly care for my outboard motor during the winter time. I live in the San Francisco bay area, and we don't often see sub-freezing temperatures and as far as I am aware, people don't usually winterize their boats here. My boat is stored outdoors and we having some sub-32 degree weather in the forecast. Is there anything I should be doing to ensure that I don't run into any issues? I use the boat about every 2 weeks and I make sure the lift and lower the motor to get as much water out as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There isn't anything you need to do for that slightly cool temperatures.
Any water in the bilge or splashwell will melt.

Be careful, the deck can be really slippery without you seeing it.

Those who use their boat in below freezing temperatures typically leave their engines down in the water since it will typically be warmer than the air temperature.

Make sure your lower unit gear oil is free of water which can freeze and split the lower unit if cold enough.
