Bob,
I kept filters on board just in case. I had an under deck fuel tank. Used 4 one season. If I had an above deck fuel tank mid season I would swap it out.

The above-deck fuel system in my 15 uses a Racor with stainless steel head and clear bowl. I have replaced the filter 3 times, and never had to drain water out of it at all.
I do replace my F70's internal filter every year, in the spring.
I change my in-line water filter every year when I winterize. Cheap insurance against condensation and/or bad gas.
The relatively big 45-gallon 160 Dauntless internal fuel tank provides a lot of room for condensation over the winter if you store with a mostly empty tank. If you store with a mostly full tank (as I do, based on aviation experience) you have a lot of elderly fuel come spring. I try to burn through that first tank quickly. A new filter provides peace of mind.
