Prop selection for 1987 17' Super Sport with suzuki df60
I recently purchased an 1987' 17 Super Sport with a 2006 suzuki df60. The boat currently has an aluminum (3-blade) 13.25 x 17" prop that is significantly beat up.
By myself while trimmed my WOT RPMs can get above 5300 and I understand that the max RPM range for this motor is listed as 4700-5300.
The boat is plenty fast for me as I am on a private lake with a speed limit. My goal is to be able to pull tubers and/or skiiers more easily, if possible, and I am willing to give up some of the top end speed.
I am trying to decide if I should get a new (3-blade) 13.25 x 17" and perhaps see overall improvement because it is not beat up and bent like my existing prop. Or if I should make a change to a wider diameter same pitch, or perhaps a 4-blade same pitch prop. Or something else.
I believe if I drop the pitch I may gain some better pull out of the hole, but my max RPMs could get dangerously high if I'm not careful.
I do have my eye on a new Solas Rubex 4 4-Blade Propeller 12.75 dia x 17 with hub for about $100.00.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
