1973 Sakonnet. Would it have 2 aluminum tanks

Member Posts: 41 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/03/16	I Just purchased a very nice all original 1973 Sakonnet 2 weeks a go... It has a single 12 red plastic fuel tank.. Someone local has a pair of Mirax 12 gallon tanks from his Montoge. Sorry about the spelling.... The tanks are solid but need reconditioning.. The price is fair.. Member Posts: 1926 Comments: 16 Joined: 05/02/08	The 12 gallon tanks under the Sakonnet/Nauset console would have looked exactly like these, held in place by a wood bar (closet pole) across the front, and sitting on whaler tank mats which are still available from Twin Cities Marine. They were either made for Whalers by Tempo (which are shown in the photo) or Mirax as you have described, painted beige. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/lgolt...3589307969 Even though they are Mirax, you might want to paint them Tempo red, as 90% of the boats had. You can buy replacement decals at nymarine.ca, as I did.

Member Posts: 1926 Comments: 16 Joined: 05/02/08	The origianl tanks by either manufacturer were aluminized steel. You must have the more recent Mirax models they have been making in aluminum. I don't think they are as well designed in terms of appearance, but I'm sure will be superior in terms of durability. For classic appearance, I would have them painted red as I mentioned above.
