I recently purchased a new Tohatsu TLDI 2-Stroke outboard. The dealer installed it and filled it with Sierra TCW-3 direct injection oil.
The Sierra brand is difficult to obtain in our boating area, and I'd like to ask for your comments relative to using another, more easily available, premium TCW-3 oil such as Quicksilver.
The Tohatsu TLDI engines are Orbital's DFI technology, same as the Mercury Optimax. Accordingly, you should be using Mercury's Optimax DFI part synthetic oil, or as a backup, Mercury's Premium Plus. I would also assume that other brands that contain 25% synthetic would be acceptable, but I would not use the lower grade TCW-3 oils that do not contain any synthetic such as plain Mercury premium.
