I just had my boat put in the water from winter storage. When I turned the engine on, it started right away and then it cut off after about 2 minutes. I turned it back on, and it ran fine. However, on the small display that shows RPM, temp, etc--there is an alarm icon and a picture of an engine. I checked the temp--pretty low. The battery is properly connected. I just had the fuel filter replaced.
I had to drive the boat back to about 10 miles to its summer home, and it ran completely fine. No odd smells or smoke. No hesitation.
The engine is the Mercury 135HP Optimax Saltwater edition (2-stroke).
Anyone know what this alarm could mean, or if I just need to run it to get the winter cobwebs out?
1) Engine is from 2002..has 358 hours
2) Combo of digital/analog gauges. The tach and gas gauge are analog. It has the SmartCraft display (link that Joe posted).
3) I bought the bought used and do not have an engine manual. However, the West Marine down the street sells some. Are they worth owning?
Joe--yes, 2 icons. The alarm/bell and the engine, which indicates engine malfunction. When I winterized it, those icons were not displayed. Actually, the marina winterized it so they did the work. They also changed the fuel filter last week for me. Now, this problem is occurring.
I took it out again for a run to see if anything happened-nothing. It ran great.
