I would like to purchase a stainless prop for my 130 SS with 40HP Mercury, however don't want to make a mistake, Would like input from users who have done any prop testing with the newer 130 ss hulls - (2009-2016 ) only . Two large adults use the boat most of the time . ( weight is a concern ) Only considering a 4 blade and want similar performance to the factory prop . ( 10.1 by 14 ) Has anyone done any testing. I will be using the boat at the coast and have current to deal with at times . Don't want to lose the low end due to the weight

Dusty, please clarify a few things:

- in general, why are you looking to put a stainless prop on? Durability, mileage, to change some characteristic of your current prop you don't like?
- what do you mean by "losing the low end?" Hole shot? Ability to hold a plane at minimum speeds? Something else?
- what is it you're looking for that you think you can only get via a 4-blade prop?

Is it correct that the standard prop for that motor on that boat is a 3-blade aluminum model? Do you know which model, exactly, it is?

The reading I have done on the topic is that while there are certain characteristics of props, and changing just one of the characteristics we can tell what will happen to performance, but when you change two characteristics, they interact and you can not predict the results.

Furthermore, if there were the "ONE TRUE PROP" then that would be the one sold with motor.

So I'm curious, too, about what you're hoping to change. This could be an interesting thread.

Interesting questions.
The Boston Whaler website has some performance specs using a 10.1" x 14" Spitfire 4-blade ALUMINUM prop, on the new 130 Super Sport, with a 40 Mercury 4-stroke.
http://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat_grap...3940PM.pdf

Look up the Spitfire performance on YouTube. It sounds like an awesome performer, even in aluminum.
Mercury does make a high-end X7 Alloy, 4 blade version. X7 Alloy, Mercury considers a step ABOVE stainless steel, and the price usually reflects that!! The 4-blade Spitfire (aluminum) is less costly.

What is your stock prop? Is your stock prop the Spitfire 4-blade?
If no, is your performance with your stock prop as good as the performance specs on the above Boston Whaler site using the 10x14 Spitfire?
If your performance is less, you could consider the 10 x 14 Spitfire aluminum.
Plus, research online for an X7 Alloy Spitfire that would be close to the 10 x 13 you currently have. I've NOT been able to fine that size on a quick search.
There are several 3-blade Stainless that fit the bill, but haven't seen a 4-blade.
