A man steals a 13' Whaler in the Florida Keys and makes it to Cuba and gets arrested. The boat had a 40 Mercury.

The one photo showed several small tanks. The owner of the Whaler said he left the keys in the ignition. He's out one boat.

Speaks for that little boat and Boston Whaler again. He must have had more than 1 tank as I believe the newer Merc. 4-stroke 40HP gets 10mpg at 20mph and we assume he traveled at least between 100-110 miles meaning he needed a minimum of two 6-gallon tanks (not using the 1/3 rule, lol)
Must have been a hell of a ride for 5-6 hours.

EJO, fuel efficiency specs for the 130 Super Sport with a 40 horse four stroke Mercury are posted on line at http://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat_graphics/eprowebsitemedia/2904/engineperformance/268452_engineperf.pdf. The engine is impressively efficient at 3500 rpm, but not sufficiently so to make the trip on a single tank.

The good news is there is a boat in Cuba that can be depended on to make the return trip for someone with better intelligence than the original thief.
