Having read a few threads here talking about how many holes up to mount the motor.. I am wondering if my 40hp Yamaha should be mounted higher on my recently purchased 1973 13' Whaler...
Do you suggest moving it up 2 holes to start, or just one? I generally don't get up to the boat for longer than one day this time of year, so I would hate to move it up 2 holes and then not have a day on the water. ;)
Just so I understand the physics behind it, what is the result of raising the motor on the mounts? Is there another thread that already explains it all in detail?
Raising the motor creates less drag. The boat will have less how rise as if planes, handles better, more efficient as cruise as well as higher top speed. If the cavatation plate is even with bottom of the hull it will be below the water when on plane. My motor was mounted all the way down when I purchased it.
Personally I would move it 2 holes up (3 holes up). If the propeller slips move it back down one hole (2 holes up). I have a 15' not a 13', maybe someone can give you some better insight on that hull.
