fuel consumption 1987 Merc 135 hp?

Member Posts: 67 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/06/14	I'm considering an 18 ft. Outrage with a 1987 135 hp Merc with 400 hours. I know, props, loading of the boat, wave action, are all variables. Now I don't want an exact answer, but I would like a ball park idea of how much fuel I'd be burning at cruise of say 25 kn. Thanks in advance. Mark The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Member Project Albums Posts: 413 Comments: 10 Joined: 05/26/08	Mark, I can run my 18 at 30mph on 18L per hour with a DF140A, loaded lightly. When heavy, switched to my lower pitched prop, it does 30 mph on 22L per hour. My old curbed Johnson 150, burned at least double, perhaps a bit more than double. I'd guess that is similar to what that Merc would burn. Mark

Member Posts: 1926 Comments: 16 Joined: 05/02/08	I have almost that exact engine on my 1975 Outrage 19, a 1988 Split cowl 2.0 liter Mercury 150 (see personal Website link). The boat is heavier than an Outrage 18, but planes easier, so the fuel mileage should be close between the two rigs. I get somewhere between 2.5 and 3.0 MPG at 30 MPH cruise and about 3600 RPM, using a 19" Mercury Laser II prop. One of our members here, CR Benny, I believe has the exact same rig you are talking about, with same engine. Maybe he will give you his information.
