Looking for recommendations/feedback on trailers around Central Florida. Trying to decide weather to rebuild or move on. Boat is a 15' 1988 SSL. Aluminum or galvanized, doesn't matter. Would have to completely rebuild old galvanized trailer to make it right, and still seems a bit short. Thanks

A lot of aluminum trailers I see around the South Carolina lowcountry that are frequently dipped into the local salt water seem like every piece of ferrous metal is rotting away. The fenders are either missing or loose, the bunk brackets are barely hanging on, ect. That's my observation of aluminum trailers if you plan on using yours in salt water. Although others here might have better history with them by those who take better care of them.

A photo or two would help.
Easternmarine.com is a good supplier and can be used for pricing.
If the trailer is not the right size, overhauling doesn't solve that.
Continental is a great brand made in Florida.

Just went through the rebuild/buy new trailer decision process for my 1998 15 Dauntless. Had my local guy price out the rebuild and it was within $150 of a new Continental.........and that didn't include new wheels or tires.
Got my Continental for just a tad over $1K including Stolz 12" rollers, and tax. Should have bought a new one years ago instead of putting about $300-400 in the old one and it still crapped out.

I should say a rebuild would only be economical if you do it yourself.
It is not hard, need basic tools and small amount of mechanical aptitude.

Gary and Phil's advice is excellent. For a classic 15, get a new Continental galvanized Tilt model C-515. Just have them upgrade the keel rollers to the 12" Stoltz and use SS roller shafts. I use The Continental Tilt model exclusively. They are really excellent trailers for most Whalers. You are lucky that you are in FL and can easily access the brand. Most people here can not.

OK. Thanks for the replies. Although not what i wanted to hear since I'm trying to talk myself out of a new Continental, you guys are dead on... I've posted some pics of the trailer on my personal page and will upload the new trailer configuration soon. Holding off on purchasing a new trailer due to contemplating selling the boat for something bigger.
