Yamaha F225 on a 1986 Outrage 25

Anyone running a F225 on a Outrage 25 center console? The boat has a 1994 Yamaha 250 two stroke right now. I have a F225 on another boat. Was wondering what kind of performance I could expect?

I had an F225 on my 1986 25 Outrage at one point and it was a dog. Underpowered for sure. I went to a 300 Optimax and now have a 250 Suzuki and 250 is the minimum HP for that boat IMHO.

In looking at the 25' owners list, all are running 250-300 hp.

We are running a 2003 F225 on a 1986 Outrage 25. It has around 900 hours on it. We are running a 5 blade Mercury high five with 17 pitch prop. It is a dog, but it gets the job done. We are seeing 34.5 knots trimmed out. It gets on plane okay, but certainly nothing to brag about. Will hold plane at around 4200 rpms. Having said all that, this motor has run its heart out and we push it to its max most of the time. We went with this one because it was the only big four stroke at the time (purchased new) that had any dealer in our area. The next repower will definitely be a 300 Yamaha four stroke. Much stronger and lighter. This one has to die first. I wouldn't do it unless funds require you to. But, it will work if that is your only justifiable option.

I'm running the Yamma-Merc 225 (Same last F225) on my Outrage 240. It is slow to get on a plane and tops out at 37mph. I'm not sure if they correlate exactly with weight and size though. Ideally, I want a 300 or a 350 on there. I'm going to wait till the current engine quits which will hopefully be a while.

Bulldog98, that is surprising you only get 34.5 knots with a F225.
I can get better than 35 statute mph on my 1984 Outrage 25 with only one Optimax 150 and the other trimmed out of the water, and it planes out quickly on one also - I have a radar arch and radar that adds some wind drag, and the boat has bottom paint. With both of the twin Optimax 150s running I can get upper 40s - before the arch it would bump right against 50. I use Rev 4 props in 17 pitch.
I recall Tom W Clark has had similar experiences to mine with twin 150s on his Revenge 25.
I am just surprised the F225 does not do better than that on the Outrage 25.

Those older Yamaha F225's were really only about 210-215 HP at the prop. Yamaha is widely known for overrating the HP of their engines, and now these 225's are getting to be known for major corrosion problems.! I belileve an older Mercury 200 EFI puts out just as much HP, and much better acceleration.

I can back up 34.5 knots being about it. You may be able to squeeze out a little more with a jackplate. I would not run a 25 Outrage without one. It makes such a positive difference.
