I'm thinking about buying an older 15' or 17' whaler. I found this article locally
"17' Bostom Whaler Classic
17' Boston Whaler with 80hp Mercury Engine. Good fishing and ski boat. This classic boat has the original hull and wood console"

What model is this whaler ? Discounting the engines, since I would repower with a Honda 4 stroke engine..what is this boat really worth ?
Cheers, Richard

The price of what looks to be a Nauset (16' not 17' ) could have a range of about 2 - 5k depending on a couple factors. Is the wood in the seat and console rotten? Is the boat rittled with knicks, scrathes, spider and stress cracks? Is the transom solid? Etc. Etc. You also can not dicount the motor. If it is on the boat and the owner is not willing to part it from the hull you will have to consider it in the asking price.

As for the trailer it looks SHOT you will have to replace it as well.

So I am not sure what you plan on using it for, or how much you plan to invest into restoring the boat but new power it will be a great boat no matter what. If the boat was completey restored with new honda power and new trailer it would be worth mid teens.

Here are some links on the History of the 16' and 17' (really 16'7" ) hulls

16', 17'?

Same basic hull. The hulls are actually 16' 7" long. All Whaler did was change the name from 16 to 17...

Then they added the "Smirk"... a little drier ride.

See my orginal post for a picture and more context..
So is it worth $4500 ?
A 1963 whaler, second owner, same family, been repowered. Seemingly well cared for, I'll know more over the weekend when I get to see it in person..
Give me your thoughts
Thanks, Richard
