I was hoping I could get some help picking out a new prop for my 1976 Montauk. I have a suzuki dt65 (1997 65hp 2 stroke). She runs good and I am happy with the numbers but the original prop isn't exactly in awesome condition and I am left wondering if I could get anything else out of her with a new prop.

I am absolutely clueless when it comes to picking out these types of things and have tried to do some research but really don't even know where to begin to get a handle on it. Any suggestions would be awesome.

For reference my WOT is just over 28 knots...

Thanks a lot.

(fixed typo of year to 1976)

You may have made a typo, as your boat appears to be a 1977 Montauk. As for the prop, I am unable to help you out on that question. I would imagine that engine should give you around 35 MPH, lightly loaded.

It is a 1976 made late in the year. I am assuming you think it is a 1977 because of the smirk but the smirk was introduced mid 1976 a few months before mine was made...

My real reasoning for the question is because of the physical appearance of the prop, a few of the dents/ scrapes on the prop (from before I bought her) are somewhat mean and there is no doubt in my mind it is causing slightly worse performance, added vibration and worse fuel consumption. I also know from talks with other owners how much of a difference a new prop can make, so maybe an aftermarket prop could really increase performance over even a perfect stock prop... I've also never hit 35, 31mph is my fastest recorded SOG from my phone (and recorded as 28 knots on my GPS again SOG) which happened an hour after high tide going with the river (incoming tide albeit very slowly moving)... I'm confident I'll get a little more once I repaint the bottom though (it is layer on top of layer on top of layer of bottom paint...)

What hole is the engine mounted in? If it is mounted all the way down, raising it up 2 or 3 holes will also help improve your performance.

I suggest you make contact with the originator of this CL ad, advertising used parts for sale for the suzuki DT65. He might have a propeller to sell you, or, at least, free advice where to get one.
