Im looking to purchase a motor for $200.00. He states it need a new connecting rod and piston. Is this something worth getting into? Is it costly to repair? Is it a good deal? If it is whats a ruff price estimate it might cost.would this motor be enough for my outrage 18? I also have a mercury 50hp Bigfoot that needs a block would anyone know where I may find one? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank in advance.
I personally would not purchase a "block" for $200 with the idea of restoring it unless I was prepared to go to a machine shop and ask for worst case scenario for rebuilding the upper and lower ends. The block might not be good if it threw a rod and piston. It would have to make sense for the rebuild cost to be worth the value of an 18 year old motor. I would think it a great deal to purchase the "block" if I had the identical motor and I could cannibalize it for parts. I say stay away.
