2012 Super Sport 150 with 60 h.p. Mercury ( bigfoot). With the original Blackmax alum. 13 3/4 by 15"prop was running 33 m.p.h. while turning 5600 rpm's. Just tried a Powertech SLD series in a 13 by 14" stainless.Both are 3 bld. Hole shot was slightly better as expected and rpm's jumped up to 5950which is the upper end of the range for that motor and where I was wanting to get to. Top speed though remained @ just over 33 m.p.h. which was a little
disappointing. I welcome any comments or suggestions. My 150 Super Sport is a little heavier than stock with two batteries, troll mtr, poling platform, etc.
I have been saying for a long time that I have discovered Mercury Black Max/Quicksilver Black Diamond props are exceedingly good for an aluminum prop. I believe they are the best aluminum prop on the market, and hold very well even will elevated engine heights. At speeds of 35 and below you will gain nothing by purchasing SS except for more bow lift and perhaps a better ride. They are now offering a 4 blade version which is supposed to be just as fast, with better acceleration, called a "Spitfire"
The only other prop that might be worth trying is the Stiletto Advantage 13" pitch, will will run like a 15" pitch.
I would also consider raising the engine 1 or 2 bolt holes. That should give better perfromance, since the Bigfoot mid and gear case runs deeper than the conventional one.
Phil & Finnegan, Thanks for the replies. did see the performance report previously. I actually tried a 13" pitch Spitfire but was disappointed because I really thought it would be the perfect prop. My rpm's did get to 6000 but my top dropped to just 31 mph and it really didn't jump out the hole like I thought it would. My main purpose of going to stainless is durability. I will be fishing a lot in the marsh this winter for specks and reds . The mud bottoms and oyster shells just tear up alum. props.
Isucole I run a slightly older 2008 Montauk 150 with the 60 HP bigfoot and a Mercury Stainless Vengeance P/N 48-17314 prop (13-3/8" x 14") I do peak out at max 6000 rpm running 34.2 mph well loaded (extra 200 lbs) with one 260 lbs crew. Hole shot not so good but overal a good prop with good economy.
