I will be in the coming weeks rigging a 2014 E-Tec 60 hp onto a 1989 BW 17 Custom hull. The boat, configured with a center console and pilot seat, will be used mainly by a teenager on a freshwater pond for watersports. I seek advice on mounting height of the 60 E-Tec outboard and stainless propeller options. The E-Tec 60 has a 2.67 gear ratio and can run a 4.25 series prop up to 14 inches diameter. Curiously, I have not found any apparent data on a BW17 smirked hull rigged with a remote controlled (non-tiller) 60 E-Tec. If anyone has this set up, please comment.

2Manyboats has a 60 hp ETEC on his modified 1977 Montauk. He is running a stainless 17" prop and reports WOT of 32-MPH and a decent cruise speed of 25 mph.

For motor sports, you may need to test different props.

I would pay close attention to rigging height. You will want to mount it either 2 or 3 holes up.

2 or 3 holes up depending on prop.

3 holes up is all the way up on a E-TEC motor.

Thanks Phil and Joe. I received the following response from 2Manyboats:
The 60 E-TEC was mounted 1 hole from the highest position. I went through several props but the best one was a Stiletto 13.25X 13 ss prop. The whole time I ran the 60 my console and seat were mounted about 20" towards the stern to give more room in front of the console for passengers. The only real complaint I had with the 60 was it vibrated at idle. My dealer said later models had softer rubber in the engine mounts to dampen the vibrations. If you don't need to do 40mph, or run offshore with a load the 60 is fine.

The 60 E-TEC was mounted 1 hole from the highest position.

So he mounted his 60hp E-TEC 2 holes up.
Good to know.

I rigged the 2014 E-Tec 60 hp to a BW17 hull (photo attached on website) two holes up and installed a Stiletto 13.25X 13 ss propeller.

The performance of the E-Tec 60 was excellent. I consumed 4.5 gallons during 7 hours of continuous operation, traveling circa 35 miles. Most of the time was at cruising rpm's between 3400-4200 depending upon sea conditions. There were 4 persons on board; seas were 2-3 feet and winds 15-20 mph.

The E-Tec ran 25-27 mph cruising speed; And WOT speed at 5850rpm was 32.7 mph in calm water.
