First of all what 17 is it? A Montauk, Newport, Sport, Super Sport?
Next where is the boat located?
Is it used in Fresh or Salt water?
Is it stored on a trailer or in water? If on a trailer then is it kept inside or out?
Is it bottom painted?
Was the boat regelcoated on the interior and exterior?
What is regelcoated in the OEM light grey or desert tan? Or was it done in a differnt color?
Was it regelcoated because it was cosmetically looking bad or because it had major hull damage?
Can the owner provide images of before and after the work to show it was not done to fix major damage? Also, you will want to see images of the work to look for pride in craftsmanship.
How is the static waterline trim of the boat when in water? Does it look like it is sitting low? If so it could be water logged.
Would the owner be willing to weight the hull if it shows signs of being waterlogged?
Does it have all of the OEM seating and console? If so what condition is the RPS in and how good is the cushion?
Does it have the OEM bow chock light?
Does it have all of the OEM bow and side railing?
What condition is the teak in (if it still has any)? Newly finsihed, old and weathered, varnished and it is yellowed and peeling?
What Condition is all of the stainless on the boat? Shiny and clean or rust stained and pitted?
Does it have any electronics? Are they new or are they old and should be replaced? Is the console swiss cheese because of the old electronics?
What is the condition of the boats electrical system? Newly redone, old and corroded, a mess of spaghetti with wires all over the place and wiring going to now where?
Does it have a trailer? New, Old, Old but well kept?
Roller or bunk?
Painted or galvanized?
If it has a trailer how are the tires, lights, and bearings?
Does it have any canvas? Mooring cover? Console cover? Foul weather System?
Is the canvas from W J Mills or another company?
What is the horsepower of the motor?
Any gauges are with the motor?
How many hours on the motor? Would they be willing to let you have a mechicanic download th ECU for you to see real hours and any CEL codes?
Did they replace all rigging with the new motor? Fuel lines also?
Does it have the OEM Tempo metal 12 fuel tanks?
Etc, Etc, Etc........
Also pictures of the boat help a lot.
If you can get the highest resolution images you can. Small pictures on the internet can hide a LOT of sins.
These are questions you should be asking for the owner to help better understand the boat and this will help to determine a good idea of what the price of the boat should be.
