Boston Whaler - Swim Platform Re-Do
When I purchased the Dauntless I noticed a small gap along the port side edge of the platform between it and the transom. I thought it might be the sealant that was simply peeling off. About the same time that I decided to inspect the trim tabs I did the swim platform. Like the tabs it too had fasteners that had come lose. I concluded that during the Dautlesses life it's previous owners (3 with me) were in the habit of climbing into the boat using the dive ladder while the boat was on the trailer. The dry dead weight overtime stressed the fasteners actually causing them to pull out. Removing the platform was a task but it got done. I discovered a broken #12 fastener during the dismount. Fortunately the mounting holes were in good condition and the O.E.M. sealant kept water out. I took advantage of the gelcoat color blend and polish that the transom was getting (just before the scupper & trim tab re-install) to also detail the swim platform and it's mounting location on the transom.
