Please excuse my ignorance. I recently removed the bow and stern eye bolts and was surprised to see the eye pieces have 2 pointy tips on them. I'm sure this must be normal but, I have to ask anyway. Am I to assume after I take the time to sand, fill and paint the hull, these pointy things are going to dig back into the hull and transom or do they make them flat now? Oh, and no laughing. :)

My belief is that those "points" keep the eyes from rotating when used.

Yeah, I figured their purpose is to anchor themselves. Just seems odd to do that to a hull.

I'd be inclined to gently pre-drill the indentations to avoid gelcoat chipping when the eyebolt turns (as it inevitably will).

When you tighten the lifting eye tighten from the oval eye that is flush and place a socket extension inside the eye with the points to provide resistance and also so it does not swivel and grind into the gelcoat.
If needed for the bow eye, get a partner.
