I am negotiating to buy a Yamaha 25MSH - 25 hp short shaft. I need to know if that will fit my Whaler. I have redone it, and need to put an engine on it. I went outside and measured, and it is 17 inches from the transom to the bottom - I understand the "shaft" on a Yamaha is 15 inches... is this the correct engine/length for the boat?
Edited to add that the boat is a 1963 - serial # is 19996

What year is your Whaler? If you do have an older, pre-1972 13' Whaler, your short shaft 15" will fit on it with no problems.

A 15" inch shaft will work perfect for your boat. I am running a 40hp Yami 15" shaft on my 1966 13'.
