I under stand that I need a long shaft kicker for my Sakonnet
What HP do I need for trolling and back up get home power?
Port or Starboard side for mounting?
Hang on the transom or install mounting bracket?

The lighter the better. The hull can only go so fast before it will plane. All of the small engines will not plane the boat and will push the boat at roughly the same speed. I put a 4-stroke Yamaha 9.9 on my 17' Montauk, it was a 100 lbs. A 6 hp would have done the same with less weight.

Exactly what Joe said.
I used a 6 hp Johnson on my Sakonnet, starboard side. I never did set up a remote steering connection, just used the tiller. It was a little hard on old legs, but it sure was simple.

6 HP is ideal for that hull. Try to keep the weight down.

I have a 6hp Nissan 4 stroke on my 1970 Nauset, it trolls all day literally on less than a gallon of gas. Perfect setup for trolling.
