a few months ago i posted a thread about how i accidentaly drilled through the drain tube in the bilge. well i gues i have to replace it now but am not sure how to get it out without destroying it. it is the original brass tube and it probably leaks anyway so it has to come out.

Oliver, if you search the Whaler Site you will find tons of posts about removing and reinstalling the brass drain tubes. Someone put a step by step on one of the post on how to do it including the part nmber to order the tubes and the tool you need to flare the end of the tube.

In your case, I would use a dremel tool or something similar and grind off the flare inside the sump area.
This tube will need to come out from the outside of the boat.
You may need to pound it out and/or pull it out at the same time.
This is a long tube. Try twisting it to break it loose if necessary.
You can also try splitting it length wise as much as possible to collapse the inside of the tube.

No matter what, this tube is history so the main thing is to get it out.
Then you can put a new one in.

As an engineer I keep toying with making an o ring sealed stainless steel screw together alternative for these damn through tubes . My original brass ones are intact but probably leak some.

I was considering turning a 316 Stainless tube with a flanged end and o ring to seal. It would have a thread and specially shaped nut which could be nicely radiused also sealing with an o ring. The nut would be done up using a peg spanner to tighten the fitting through and snug against the hull interior and exterior faces. ( bit like a glorified skin fitting)

Worth a go do you reckon?

I am redoing my 15' and recently removed all of the drain tubes. it took abot 15 minutes to do this. I used a 1" galvanized pipe, a rubber mallet and a pair of vice grips. I bent the outside flaired end othe draintube so that it would catch the edge of the pipe. i then started driving the pipe through the drain tube opening hence driving the tube out the other end. periodically I would spin the pipe to keep it from bindingonce the pipe was through the old tube was out. I then put the vice grips on the end of the pipe and tapped on it to back the pipe back out.
