If you go with an etec you'll have to use a jack plate since they only come in a long shaft, at least a 40 hp. I think they are pretty heavy, also. I chose the 40 hp Nissan tldi that weighs 206 lbs with ptt standard. It's a great engine for that boat. Others have chosen smaller hp 4 strokes and are happy with them. Kamie wrote an excellent article on current engine choices for whalers. You can find it under "articles" at the upper left of the page. Whichever you choose, you'll love the boat.

I don't know I've just always had a thing for the e-tecs.
