I recently repowered a 1985 17 super sport with a 115 hp suzuki 4 stroke. It has 25shaftwas rigged with a 6 inch jackplate with 4" setback. The additional weight from the 1994 merc 90 two stroke to this setup was 137 lbs, however it sets boat way to low in the water. I have a 90 honda 4 stroke that I could rig on the whaler, however that would only be 43 lbs less tha suzuki setup. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

40 lb reduction is a significant difference. Moving other weight forward will too.
Where is the battery and gas tank located now? I would move them forward as well.

I agree with CBO - try moving some weight forward first - maybe even add weight to the bow locker. Then see where you are before switching motors.

two problems that I see, the first is the boat should have a 20 inch outboard,not a 25. That means that you should be at the top of your jackplate with no place to adjust. Any reason you got a 25 inch shaft, rather than the 20 inch shaft?
The other problem, is that using a jackplace will place the weight further aft, that changes how the boat sits in the water and will always make the stern sit lower. on my 18, the stern sits 2 to 3 inches lower with the jackplate than without.
Can you convert the Suzuki to a 20 inch rather than a 25 inch shaft? and then hang it back directly on the transom?
If you can't do that than get CMC's Vertical extension that gives you 5 inches of lift but no setback. The boat will still sit lower but mostly from the additional weight, not a combination of the weight and the setback.
Also, remember that any brackets add weight as well.

I bought the 115 because it was a deal. Sometimes, it's the deal you thought you got instead of the deal you really got. I have 25 gallons of fuel which i need to get forward somehow. The 90 20" honda is on my poontoon, so switching would probably be easier, I think. Thanks

I agree with using the honda. The difference in hp compared to performance is probably very little.
