I have just purchased a 1986 Outrage 18 with a Yamaha C150 but no prop. Any recommendations on a prop for this combination? Boat will be used for general purpose with up to 4 adults aboard.

A 14 and 1/4 by 17 should work well or a 15 1/4 by 15 elephant ear prop . Load and altitude play a big part. These will possibly not be the final prop you will like to use either. ghost rider

To select a prop we first need to know what the gear ratio and WOT RPM range is for your motor.

If the gear ratio is 1.86:1 as the current Yamaha two stoke 150s are and the red line is 5500 RPM as I think it is, then you will be looking for a prop with about 17 inches of pitch. If the gear ratio is 2:1 then you may want a 19" pitch prop.

Unfortunately, pitch alone is not the only factor in propeller selection.

I can tell you from experience that there are several good props to try for the boat motor combination. From Yamaha you could try their painted stainless steel propeller in the 14" x 17" size or the Saltwater Series in t he 15-1/4" x 17" size.

The Yamaha Performance Series in the 14-1/4" x 18" might be a good fit too if you are looking for top speed.

The Stiletto Advantage 4.75 in the 14-1/4" x 15" or the Turbo Turbo 1 in the 14-1/4" x 15" size would be very similar.

In four blade props there is the 14" x 17" Mercury Offshore/Vensura as well as several offerings from Stiletto, Turbo and PowerTech that might suit your needs.

Of course, there is the tried and true Mercury MIRAGEplus (very similar to the Yamaha Saltwater Series which was modeled after it.)

If your motor does, in fact, have 2:1 gears, then add an inch or two of pitch to the above recommendations.

Thank you both for your inputs. I will try to find something in the used market to start with.
