finally got to make a couple runs today where it was calm enough for WOT.
average RPM is 5150 with the average speed at 45.5MPH. Prop is a 19p Laser II with medium vent plugs. Looking at the engine on plane I don't believe she can go higher as the plate is fully out of the water at speed.

The boards are off the hull but the bottom paint is not.

For the 175 E-Tec the RPM range is 4850 - 5850 with the optimum part of the range in the 5500 - 5600.

Kamie, I have some thaughts about your top speed. I just picked up a 18 outrage with Honda 130. Top speed with 3kids and wife is about 37(gps). I think I can get over 40 by myself. My thaught was that you should be running over fifty with a 175. Kamie I also have a 22 foot bay boat w/a 150 fourstroke and top speed is near 50. Just thaught you would be screaming with a 175??? BG

Barry,

Everything says I should be running over 50, except my GPS :) Which says I am solidly mid 40's. I actually assume my max speed will be in the 47 to 48 MPH range, until I remove the bottom paint. I was also testing with the tank 3/4+ full of gas.

If the winds stay down next weekend I will try to get in some prop testing. The Laser II did great with 3 people and a full boat of fishing gear. Lots of power and easily moved the boat at 25 - 28 MPH, with no issues jumping up on plane.

How is the bottom paint removing going?I have the same bottom paint problem and have tested several areas to see what product works . Ihave used the citrastrip and it seems to do ok . We are headed to the beach for two weeks and thaught I would wait before removing it until after. Please pass any tricks for removal of the bottom paint on. BG

Barry,
Removing the bottom paint will be on the spring 2009 list. Right now, typical mid atlantic summer, the 3 H's (Hazy,Hot, Humid) are in control and crawling under the boat to scrape bottom paint, when I could be fishing and out on the boat is a non option. No matter how much I would like those extra MPH for top speed.

When I did the stern, I used citristrip, a plastic scraper and a plastic mesh scrubbie. I plan the same for the rest of the bottom paint, followed by lots of wet sanding.

Does your boat feel different now that you removed those 2 x 4 s Kamie?

Your #s sound about the same as mine. I am happy with mid 40s top speed because there are some low end and mid range properties that I like about my prop (Rebel) that I would probably lose if I squeeze out that last 5 mph at top end. My boat is not comfortable at all above 40 mph anyway.

Smoothing out that bottom paint is something I will get around to also. That has got to effect fuel economy.

I'm shocked it didn't make any difference. I figured 2 x 4 s attached to the bottom of the boat would not only cause resistance, but that they would effect handling as well.
I guess my .02 is worth less then .02. :(

Do you still have a jackplate?
