Hey does anyone know if a 1998 40 hp. Mercury sea pro outboard has an air filter on the carb?
There seems t be an empty plastic box on the mouth of the carb.
I don't recall having air filters on my other smaller motors.

Outboards to not use air filters. Well at least the old carb'd ones.

thanks Jeff, I had a feeling it did not have one. I guess it would be a good idea to clean it with carb. cleaner every now and then.

My 1986 40 Yamaha does not have an air filter either.

My recently acquired `99 Johnson 25 Two stroke doesn`t even have a bow in front of the carb, although there are two threaded holes in the front of the single carb. Is the plastic box missing, or as the previous owner stated, never had one.
