Saturday my boys took me fishing (in my boat) for Father's day. We launched at Theriot, La. in Bayou Du Large. We headed down the bayou to Pelican Island which is along the coastline on the edge of the gulf. We drifted the shore lines for a while and caught a few specks. It was relatively slow so we decided to head to the offshore rigs. They're just over 5 miles out. The seas (or would it be gulfs:D) were smooth enough for us to try it. We hit a few "bumps", but not a bad ride. There were several boats already out there, including a nice Dauntless, but all larger boats. We hooked into some nice specks there until the tide changed. We headed in and drifted some of the inland areas a while but with little success. The afternoon thunder heads were building so we headed for the landing. Some of that was at wot to beat the rain. Overall we traveled between 50 and 60 miles with tackle, two ice chests, and three of us. We burned about 5 to 5 1/2 gallons for the trip. I love my Nissan TLDI! Overall a good trip. The other boats at the rigs must have thought we were escapees from a mental institution. Here's a pic of a nice speck and you can see how calm the water is.
