Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 1987 Striper 15

Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1987 Striper 15 with a 1987 Yamaha 50. It seems to be in all original condition, with blue interior and intact plexiglass windshield etc. It is listed for 5500 (In North Carolina) and I believe I can talk him into some wiggle room on that price. Is this worth it?
In addition, I dont have much experience except with an 18 ft Dauntless. How do these boats ride in chop and wind? Is it a dry ride?

Thanks in advance,

Interesting.
What is the HIN on the outside of the starboard transom?

Not sure. Will ask for a picture of it. I havent had a chance to see the boat yet in person but will be seeing it in the next few days. Ill attach another pic here so you can see the hull shape.

I was able to get the Serial from him, but I dont think he gave me the HIN. He said that number is 5B1178. Can anyone tell me what boat it is or other details based on that?

There is a significant difference in ride between the classic 15 hull and the post-classic Dauntless 18/180.

It is great on rivers/lakes and near shore in less than 1' ers.

If the engine and trailer are in good shape, that is a good price.

I purchased the boat today, was able to talk him down to $4750. I think it’s a decent price and a boat we can enjoy. Can’t wait to learn more about them and follow along with the forum. Thanks for the help so far.

Do a sea trial before buying.

You may not like the ride having come from a larger boat.

Yep you’re right, I was missing the E. It’s barely stamped where the rest are much more visible
