Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Save bent transom eye?

I picked up my first Whaler last Friday. I'm excited to finally be one of the "cool kids". :-)

Mine is an 1986 13' sport. On the left side of the transom the tie down is bent. I think that I'll just have to cut it off and then replace it, but before I did that I was wondering if there might be a way to save it? I'm not sure if it is chrome plated brass or some sort of soft metal that I may be able to straighten. Any thoughts? Check out the attachment. They must have hit something pretty hard to bend it.

There is an eye and a D ring connected by a threaded rod.

The photo appears to show the rod is bent. This happens.

Remove the inner eye and pull the rest out of the hole. Remove the bent rod from the D ring and replace with a new stainless threaded rod.

Oh nice! I assumed that the D-ring wouldn't unscrew. Is there a place where you would recommend purchasing a new stainless steel rod?

Would go with Lowes/Home Depot. Bring the Eye/D ring with you to make sure the threads mesh.

Use a good marine sealant, not adhesive like Life Caulk by Boat Life.
