First, I'm so pumped this site is back up and running. THANK YOU! Second, I have a 1993 Montauk 17. Can anyone recommend an aftermarket LED stern light? I like the OEM part but I'm looking for one that I can mount and will fold on the aft starboard gunwale so it's not always sticking up. I've seen plenty on the web for sale, just checking here to see if there's one that mounts, fits, and works particularly well on a 17 Montauk from your experience. Thanks!

I really do not understand the interest in LED nav lights.

Incandescent bulbs last a long time, they are replaceable (LED are not) and are inexpensive.

Most problems with navigation lights involve corrosion due to age, and omitted maintenance with the wiring connections or bulb socket.

The OEM pole and hardware allows the stern pole to be removed with the quick disconnect plug. Adding two D clips along the gunnel wall allows it to be stowed out of the way.

I think your boat's setup has been altered over the years. We can point you to the items you need to return to the OEM setup.

“Most problems with navigation lights involve corrosion due to age, and omitted maintenance”

I’ve read the manual but didn’t see this addressed. What maintenance would be required besides an occasional clean and dialectic grease.

That is it.

Keep in mind many boats have the original navigation wiring, bus bar, switch and fuse.

Thanks Phil! The draw for LED for me is the power draw...but you actually make great points. I don't spend much time if at all at anchor at night hanging out on battery power in a Montauk 17.

My whaler has the original mounting hardware still attached and the wiring in place. Looks like I just need the pole and light. I didn't know the OEM stern light was removable via QD. Makes sense it would. Also makes it a good solution instead of mounting another light to the gunwale. Glad I asked.

Thanks for the great advice as always!

Finding the Perko pole with bare wires can be a challenge as most retailers do not carry it

You can use a two pole trailer connector as the disconnect.
