There is one sending wire that goes from the center of sender on the tank under the nut to the gauge on the dash. Check the connection there. And then check the ground on the sender on the tank and check ground on the gauge. The gauge is a ohm gauge and there should not be a positive wire anywhere near the sender on the top of the tank. The ignition wire is your positive on the gauge and goes hot with ignition on. Hope this helps.
