I need to replace the Cox trailer for my 1987 Super Sport 13 w/2010 Suzuki DF40 outboard. I purchased the boat second hand and unfortunately, the trailer's VIN tag had fallen off and was not provided by the seller. As such, I don't know the specs of the current Cox trailer. I am seeking to know what weight capacity would be recommended for the new trailer to be purchased.

Estimate the hull weight (330#), interior (50#), engine (235#), rigging(25#) and gear (30#). Add fuel (6 ga @ x 6lb (36#)

Add 20% as a safety margin

or -

Get the boat/trailer weighed at a scale. Use the total weight for the axle rating.

The weight of the existing trailer (~300 lbs) will be your safety margin.

*Note- There is a high demand for boat trailers. Delivery times are into the spring already. Shop dealers HARD. Prices vary widely for same trailer.

I have a 1500 pound capacity trailer for my 2013 13 Super Sport. Like the previous post, you may be hunting for the right trailer. I inquired about a new torsion axle for mine, dealer said he had a customer waiting on one for months already. I did see an axlesless design on another website that was pretty cool, about same price as a new torsion axle though.
