Geoff: On second thought, avoid travel through NH all together. Too many toll roads. NH is crazy now with toll roads. Look up the mean of the word "shunpiking." Track an overland travel route from the Cape to VT via 495 and route 2 to route 7 North into the state of VT. Plan to stop at the Clark Museum in Williamstown (www.clarkart.edu/) where you can take a break and see a permenent collection of Winslow Homer, among other prominent artists. Then proceed North into VT via route 7. Beautiful scenery along the route 7 North roadway. You can plan to stop in Bennington and visit the Bennington Battle Monument that commemorates the Bennington battle during the American Revolutionary War. You will have a variety of boat ramps to choose from once you reach Vt and the shores of Lake Champlain. All ramps are free. Only boating persons born after 1974 need a boat license in VT.
