Many thanks for all of the replies, In an attempt to remove the plug, the brass tube came out with it! It's corroded away on the end so i will install a new Moeller 1" Drain tube and set this in on marine epoxy.

I don't know if i'd want to put the fuel in the boat for the 6 hour treck too poole but it's a thought!
