Im trying to finally put my console together. When I bought it, it was just a pile of wood. I am missing a piece and don't know if I should try to make it? (It will never match and I doubt I have the skill).... Or get lucky and hope someone has a console in pieces already they are not using(I would happily pay for it)?

Of course its the thickest piece of wood in the whole console... 1 1/2 x 3 x 17. Can I even buy wood this thick anywhere?

The piece of solid mahogany wood you seek is called the rear post. There are two, one on each side of the top console, rear facia. I think they are identical cuts. If I needed a piece like the rear post, I would call Bob Latourelle, Haverhill, MA. He can cut a piece for you and ship it to you. Bob always has an ad on Craigslist Boston, entitled: "Boston Whaler Mahogany wood consoles and seats (Haverhill). You can reach him via 978-837-8808.

You have a piece and therefore can duplicate it even if it is a mirror view.
As for the wood you could try a local marine junkyard where they have an old "woodie" cabin cruiser or an older boat with wood railings, as you could use a piece of hand railing for this wood.

lgdpt: I checked the 39 page Console Diagram document, and page 5-6 show two different cuts for the rear posts. In this case, the console diagram (in the downloads section on this site) is your best resource for information on the specifications, if you choose to DIY.
