An amazingly original 1990 Outrage 18 followed me home today. There are just enough items to let me enjoy becoming acquainted with it and then off to the coast.

One item did happen on the journey and that is the port side light lost its metal cover. I sure would like to be able to find one. Any help would be appreciated.

Congratulations!

So, is it an Outrage 18, or a 19 Outrage I ? I believe if it is a 1990 model year, that should make it a 19 Outrage I. If it's definitely an Outrage 18 model, then perhaps the model year is incorrect?

Either way, great boat and enjoy it!

It's actually a Outrage 19' I with a left over prior year decal that still says Outrage 18'

We have seen that before with other consoles, decals, and other prior year parts until they are all used up.

Very interesting!

So, what should he call it then?

The 1990 Boston Whaler catalog calls it an Outrage 19 and that is what it is.

Potentially a dealer or a recent owner could have also replaced the decals because that is all they had. (even though this might not be the case in this hull)

We have to go by the published catalogs in this case.

It is an Outrage 18. Paper work isn't always correct, so maybe I shouldn't repeat that is says built in 1989 and model year is 1990. Does the ID number tell? Does the stenciled number tell?

I'm returning to BW ownership from some time ago, so I am learning. I would post a photo, but don't know how or where.

It does have teak where the photos in the above link show none on the 1990 models.

the last two digit, 90, in the HIN is the model year.

1990 is correct model year, not when it was manufactured.

I have a 2008 Jeep that was manufactured in 2007. What year is it?
2008

Just like that 1990 Outrage you just bought.

Familiarize yourself with how Boston Whaler and other boat manufacturers tend to follow the auto industry on how and when a vehicle or Hull is identified.
Whaler uses August as the next years model while autos use September or October these days.
See the "New Year Format" in this article.

The VIN or HIN tells us everything.
VIN = Vehicle Identification Number
HIN = Hull Identification Number

Enjoy your 1990 Outrage 19'
Excellent model.
