I will be picking up this boat this weekend. It appears as thought the winch stand is a bit high and needs to be adjusted so that the Bow stop is located just above the Bow eye with the winch cable just below. It appears however that the winch stand may not be adjustable. Please have a look at the attached picture. Thoughts?

The trailer appears to be the wrong size for this Montauk 17 --- too large. That said, you should be okay towing it home (assuming it is well balanced/braced and secured.) Once you get it home hopefully you can make adjustments or modifications. Hard to tell from the photo, but there may be another set of bolt holes on the winch stand that will let you lower it 3-4" or so.

Okay, in that photo I can more clearly see that the winch stand has additional bolt holes that will allow it to be lowered down 3-4" or so. You might start there.

Again, the trailer itself seems oversized for the Montauk 17. We have some folks here that are especially good with trailers -- hopefully they will chime in with suggestions for further modification/adjustment.

The trailer is a bit too large but that is not a terrible thing. You can fix the problem with the winch post stand and move the boat back a bit.

It's all DIY'able.

Hamilton Marine unfortunately does not carry trailer frame parts.

I like Loadrite's product since it is adjustable. This vendor is well respected and used by many members on the east coast.

You need to check your tongue dimensions and the height to the bow eye to select the correct post.

The trailer is not too large. Just need to push the boat back To the edge then readjust everything accordingly. Boats ride better the further away from the vehicle and I’d rather be too large (trailer) than too small.
