My rub rail is pretty trashed and I'm in the market for something new. Does anyone have any suggestions?

And I should say I'm not positive it's called a "rub rail". I'm talking about the rubber trim bumper around the edge of the boat.

For a 1993 Whaler Montauk 17'.

Thanks for any help!

Wry-

It is in fact called rubrail.

For your model it is made of two parts. The white receiver or track and the black rubber insert.

It is made by Barbour Plastics and is still available.

While "trashed," does that mean it is broken, gouged or missing parts or just visually unappealing.

If a visual issue, there are steps you can take, DIY, to improve its esthetic look.

One side of it is broken and ruined. The other side is fine though. I guess I could replace half of it?

It is sold by the foot.

The challenge is the area of the splice. Most would replace the entire thing.

You can get the rubrail via a Whaler dealer.

Many members go through Sue Lodel, Parts Manger at Twin Cities Marine for their excellent service. She ships parts to members all over the world.

Phil and Wry: If you go to the downloads section on this site, you will find rubrail installation instructions for the 15/17 foot models. If you download/open the document, you will see that there are actually three (3) pieces to the rubrail, namely the flexible vinyl, the rigid vinyl and the rubrail. Boston Whaler also referenced the rubrail as a Gunwale Guard, or a Gunwale Guard Kit.
