Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Stereo Speaker location on 150 Montauk

I have a new 2017 150 Montauk, and in the process of installing a new stereo. After considering options for locating the two speakers, I would prefer to mount them on the aft side of the console. One just below, and to the left of the wheel, and one just below, and to the right of the throttle shift control.
The only problem with this is the coast guard certification sticker is located in the spot I want to mount the left speaker.
Can I get a replacement sticker from BW if I decide to cut a hole thru the original?

Boston Whaler will not replace the capacity plate. You might be able to get a reproduction made.

Why not install the speakers in the same location as they do for the OEM option on the 170 (similar console)?

Drop down lower to avoid the stickers.

Why not mount them on the side of the console. I mounted mine aft of the door low on Port side and exactly opposite on SB aft down from the tackle drawer and next to the fire-extinguisher.
I assume you want them facing you but I can tell you the engine is quiet enough at WOT that I can easily over power any noise and have great sound.
I can take a picture tonight and PM you if interested.

Yes, I realize the sides of the console are the typical mounting location. I may end up putting them there.

E-J

I looked on your personal page to show A. an example but your photos don't include the install.

Can you replace the photo on the PP to show the console with the speaker install?

OK here are some pictures of where I installed my water resistant speakers in my CC. Please note that the OD of the plastic cover is 6-3/8" for reference. I think Boss called them 6" speakers.(don't hold me to that)
The pictures are self explanatory and don't need any cations.

Have you considered just avoiding the cutting and investing in a high-quality Bluetooth stereo that is water resistant or has a waterproof case? The less holes in a console, the prettier IMO.

Yes. I have a couple different blue tooth speakers. One is a little Jam model. The other is a large Fugoo. They are nice, but I find they just can't compete with an installed stereo with 6" speakers. I think the console mounting also increases the bass resonance.

Al you are right, yes there are nice BT speakers but nothing replaces a nice large air box (center console) for bass resonance. We have a nice couple of JBL's which have tremendous bass output but it is still a single speaker which do not compare to a Stereo (2 or more speakers) installation.
My two speakers give me good bass and stereo sound.
