Hi everyone! I am the proud new (3rd) owner of a 2012 Montauk 170. Bought as is but did a sea trial and all went well. Motor great, electrical needs some work and some of the installed options need work. No big deal. I hope!!! Until I found water under the helm in the electrical access hole for the wiring harnesses to the various components at the bow and stern that run in the hull. Should any water be lying in the hull?

And is the hull baffled in sections? The aft end sits really low and I am concerned there is water in the aft hull section.

Any knowledge on hull construction and possible water intrusion would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have any pics of the boat sitting in the water (static trim)?

I have found that in a marine environment water will get everywhere (even into the fuel). I think that finding water in areas you can see is going to be somewhat normal. Water can get into the hull foam and that is not normal.

Are there any holes drilled in the hull (ex: Fishfinders, depthfinders, bilge pump outlets, etc)?

Yes numerous holes which I know any one of them could be leaking if not sealed properly or cracked. On my immediate list is to get them all inspected since I don't have records from previous owners.

Holes in the hull are: Depth/fish finder, live bait well, bilge pump and on transom besides engine mount is a power pole and twin lenco trim tab trolling motors.

Take some photos, specifically showing the back of the boat and post them here.

Where does the water line sit compared to the through hull drains?

The boat is constructed so the foam is sealed between the deck and the hull. The rigging tunnel and access areas are all finished.

Smart thing to do is pull the boat, remove and reseal all screws one at a time with a dab of polysulfide based sealant.

Given age, I would replace the through hull drains in the transom as a precaution.

All through hulls were factory installed along with the optional equipment on the transom. The thru hulls that I mentioned are below the waterline.

jpg file size too big. I will work on that later. Boat is coming out of the water on Tuesday to work on the trolling motor system so will have the hull thoroughly inspected then.

The bilge discharge is above the waterline but the bilge drain with a through hull fitting is below water line. Changed the picture size on my phone so hoping the photo attaches.
