If anyone out there has a trailer that supports a 1978 17' Montauk it would help me out a lot to know the following:

Vertical distance from keel roller to bunk board support.
Horizontal distance from center-line to bunk board support.
Length of bunk board supports.
Centerline distance from rear keel roller to front keel roller.
Centerline distance from rear keel roller to bow support.
Vertical distance from rear keel roller to bow support.

I'm building a cradle to support this boat in a boat house and would like to model after typical trailer for this boat.

Very much appreciate any responses.

You're asking someone to do a lot of work, and work that isn't easy to do accurately.

Maybe the photos of my trailer in this album can help you out, however. The boat is stored 300 miles away so I can't get to it.

I agree with Finnegan. It would seem to make more sense to design your, "cradle" with adjustable bunks maybe even using trailer bunks and hardware to have a cradle that is not only adjustable for a perfect fit for this boat as well as being able to be adjusted to other boats in the case of an upgrade to another boat, a cradle you can sell when you have no more use for it, or even a cradle you could include with the boat house should the property with the boat house ever be rented or sold.

to the OP large piece (refrigerator box) of cardboard is your friend. You could make a pattern at say 3 points of the bottom hull.
Transom, i/3 from the front and one in between these two. That will give you the points of where to support on the inner chines.
Of course you have to be able to lift the boat and get under it. Maybe a come-a-long in the boathouse would help you with this.
From what I know the boat is mainly supported by the 2 bunks and not the keelw (except maybe a roller or two.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions - my problem is that I am designing this before traveling to where the boathouse is located (and the boat)... however I was able to gain good enough insight by looking at pictures - thanks again!

When I got my 1982 Montauk 17, I checked around to figure out the best trailer setup. I believe the advice was to have the weight on the rollers and not the bunks, which is how I now have it. If this is wrong, I really would like to know.
