Thinking about putting trim tabs on 20 outrage... anyone have thoughts on tab size and mounting location? i have read that mounting them on the outer most part of transom is a bad idea because of high stress points on the unreinforced portion of the transom...

Before spending $1k, what problem are you trying to solve?

If you have a classic Outrage 20 rather than the mid-90's Outrage 20, consider moving the battery to the console.

Engine height, prop selection and trim are important. Where is your engine mounted (see http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=106) and what prop (make/model and size) do you have?

The batteries and the VRO are under the console. It is a 1996 evinrude 200 with a 14 1/2 X 17 prop. The motor is up on the highest notch.

My 1984 Outrage 25 has plenty of strength in the unreinforced part of the transom for big 14x12 trim tabs that I've used for 7 years since I installed them. People have speculated that the unreinforced area may need, but I'm not aware of any case where there was actually a problem, and I'm aware of numerous people who have installed them in the unreinforced part.

i have a 89' outrage 20'.....i put the smart auto trim tabs on it and i could not be happier....very easy to install( had to remove the swim platform)...they really help the bow stay down on the hull shot and i think they really increase stability

they are very inexpensive and don't require any electrical or hydraulics

i highly recommend them
