Hi guys

My name is Martin and im living in Gothenburg / Sweden, My boat at The moment is a Finnmaster 49CC " Finnish brand " :). But im very keen on getting a Whaler II 17 because its almost the same dimensions except the weight and the Outrage II 17 is weiging around 717 kilos without engine if i dont remember wrong. And a big plus is that its rated for 150 HP versus The Finnmaster that weighs 400 kilos and is only rated for 60 HP :(

Is The Whaler Outrage II 17 a good choice, My use would be in the atlantic ( skagerak ) sea and a big river so there will be fairly rough sea sometimes.

I have found one boat nearby where i live for aprox 9000 USD equipped with most things including trailer and a 150 HP Johnson Oceanrunner, se link:

Thankful for as much good info as possible about this boat as it is a rare thing with Whaler boats in Sweden i guess you are the ones to ask :)

Regards Martin

Hi Martin,

Welcome to Whaler Central.

The 17 Outrage II is probably the best 17-foot model Boston Whaler has ever made. For its size, it is a very capable boat. I don't own one, but would be happy to if the opportunity ever presented itself.

The boat in your link appears to be in very good condition. And the price is reasonable. If it appears as good in person, it may be a promising candidate. Good luck!

Martin -

Very good choice.

Many owners use it in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans for near and offshore fishing.

Can handle rough waves and seas.

The Outrage 17 II has a taller console with windscreen then the Finnmaster. You can sit or stand when driving the Boston Whaler.

The Outrage is longer. More room, rear and bow seating. Storage in console. Large fuel tank under floor for better range.

The hull of the Outrage 17 is a better V than the Finnmaster.

I recommend you look and get a test ride of the Outrage 17 II

Is this the boat you are looking at?

Thanks, i will give the seller a call and try it out, i really like the estetics of the Outrage 17 and it has the right dimensions, weight, enginesize.etc. Does this model have any bad things that i should be look a little bit extra on, weak-points.etc? Boston Whaler as a manufacturer has a solid reputation so that is good :)

Thru-hull drains are a bit of a pain in the xxx. Check them.

I can't comment on the hull but 22 years is a pretty old motor. I ran an ocean pro 200 on a Well craft coastal. It ran okay but starting cold wasn't always easy. The trick is to be sure the primer bulb is pressurized. Then push in the ignition key without turning it for 5-10 seconds. Then start her up. If it hesitates or tries to stall push in the key and that will dump gas straight into it.

Make sure to test the compression. It should be over 100psi and all cylinders should be within 5 psi of each other. If the compression is off you can use that to bargain on the price since a re power isn't far off in the future.

Martin, did you have a look at the boat? Did you drive it?
It has been for sale for a while now. I was also interested in it but haven't had time to go and see it, and I thought the engine is quite old (not worth much if you would sell it to change to a newer one)
Price is about 14000 USD I believe (not 9000)
You can find more Whalers in Norway check out www.finn.no
