Just put a 90 4 stroke Yamaha on our 1988 17 Super Sport Limited. This is the same hull as a 1988 17 Montauk, just with bench seats. Motor sits great! Boat runs great! Its stern sat a little lower, but that was corrected by changing out 24 gallon tank with long and flat 18 gallon tank. Original motor weighed 305 lbs, this motor weighs 366... by eliminating 6 gallons of gas, we eliminate 50 lbs of weight. 4 stroke you are going to burn less gas so no need for the original 24 gallon tank..... we love it and no stress cracks or transom damage noted...
