This is my first thread. Early this morning, I won the following 1991 OUTRAGE 17 - I, on eBay, for $4207...

The boat is in Florida, a 21 hour drive for me to pick it up. When I pick it up, I will also visit a few friends in FL, a few hours away, that I have not seen in a few years, to combine the trip for "business" (picking up the boat), and pleasure (picking up the boat and visiting friends)...

I bought the boat without personally inspecting it based on the 9 photos in the auction listing. What sold it for me was the fact that it looks like it may never have been bottom painted. The auction listing stated that the motor had not been tested, which is fine for me. I have a new 60 HP Mercury 4 stroke with 5 hours on it.

Thanks to your GREAT Whaler Central site, I was able to do a bit of research in the last week, that informed me, among other things, that the minimum HP required for this boat is 50 HP. I know it will still be under powered, but the 60 HP, is a very reliable place to start... I am retired, and no longer a speed demon. I also love that it has a 32 gallon under deck fuel tank, and that it has a built in live well... After viewing scores of threads on this site, thanks to you, I determined that the OUTRAGE was the choice for me, versus a 17' Montauk. Funny thing, I will be fishing the Montauk, NY area, which has scores of huge stripped bass... I currently have (2) 13' Whalers and a 2004 Conquest 275, with twin Mercury/Yamaha 4 strokes, that i have had for almost 10 years... Since I recently retired on Social Security, it is tough to pay for 100 gallons of fuel or more for a day for the 275 Conquest... The OUTRAGE 17 will allow me to fish on ANY fair weather day...

If anyone has a proper galvanized trailer for sale as well as a Bimini top for sale for the OUTRAGE 17', please let me know... Wish me luck...!!!
